Uyuni is the latest "important" city before the desert. Here you can find easily a travel agency to
negociate a tour with a 4x4 (four wheel drive car) in the Salar and South Lipez Region.
Train cemetery
Its is located nearly 2 kms outside Uyuni following the railroad in the direction of the desert.
It is absolutely fabulous to see these old machines in the middle of nowhere. Looking at the pictures,
you'll see they are not really ready to operate again...
Salar de Uyuni
A flat salty area with following dimensions: 100 kms long & 120 kms width...altitude 3800 m ! A good
taste of INFINITY... Don't forget your sunglasses and your GPS because there are absolutely no signs to show
the way. You can find a hotel in the salar not so far from Uyuni and "of course" it is built with salt.
La Isla de los Pescado (in the Salar de Uyuni)
Among the infinity of the Salar de Uyuni, there's an isolated island: la isla de los Pescados. On this
island you can mind the feeling to be in a very exceptionnal place. Huge Cactus are the main population on
this rocky piece of land in an ocean of salt...
Deeper in the Salar de Uyuni
Driving deeper in the salar, we reached a flooded part. Last winter, it rained a lot according to
Mateo our driver but also cooker, guide and mecanician... Landsacape are fabulous !
